Let’s Learn

Let’s Learn What We Way In Salah

SufyanAssalamu Alaykum Little Explorers,

How are you all today? And how is your Salah? Have you learnt all the steps? My sister is making terrific progress mashaAllah! She’s just finished memorising Surah Al-Faatiha and Surah Al-Kauthar, so that she can recite them in her Salah. Now that she knows all the steps, I’m going to show her what she needs to say while she is doing them.

My mother bought me a little, white thobe (long white Arab gown for boys), a white cap, a red head scarf and a black robe. That is how the Imaams in the Masjid dress up here in Madinah.

We’ve even improved our Masjid, instead of building walls with cushions, we got some old boxes from the store. Sometimes our friends come over and we all pray together. I lead the Salah each time because, Alhamdulillah I have memorised more of the Quran than all of my friends!

Did you know? When choosing an Imaam from a group of people, one of the important things that helps us to decide is to check who has memorised the most Quran.

To help my sister learn what to recite I made these flash cards for her. You can use them too if you haven’t already memorised what we say in Salah.

Ask a grown up to help you learn some of the words and to explain the meaning of some of the duas. They’ll be glad to help InshaAllah!

We stand on a clean floor facing the Qiblah

(the Kabah in Makkah)

Sufyan different poses-01

To start the salah we raise our hands with our palms facing the Qiblah, and with our thumbs below the ears we say

Allahu Akbar

(Allah is the Greatest)

Place the right hand on the left hand and in the first rakah we recite:

Subhanakal-lahumma wa bi hamdika wa tabaara kasmuka wa ta’aala jadduka wa laa ilaaha ghairuk

You are Glorified, O Allah, and Praised, Your name is Blessed, Your Majesty is Exalted, and none has the right to be worshipped but You.

Sufyan different poses-03

Here we say:

A’udhu billahi minash shaitanir rajeem. Bismillah hir rahma nir-raheem’

I seek refuge with Allah from the Shaytaan, the rejected one.

In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy.

and recite Surah Al-Faatiha and another surah, for example Surah Al-Ikhlaas.

Say Allahu Akbar and then go into ruku and say:

Subhana Rabbi yal Adheem

(How Perfect my Lord is, The Supreme)

 Say 3 times

(Or any odd number of times)

After ruku we stand up again and say

After ruku we say Allahu Akbar and then go into sajda and say

(How Perfect my Lord is, The Most High)

(Or any odd number of times)

Sufyan different poses-06

We say Allahu Akbar and get up from sajda.

We do sajda twice in one rakah. After the first sajda we sit up and say

Rabbigh firlee

(My Lord, forgive me)

Then do the second sajda

We raise our right index finger and say

At-tahiyyaatu lillaahi was-salawaatu wat-tayyibaatu. Assalamu ‘alaika, Ayyuhannabiyyu warahmatullahi wa barakatuhu, Assalamu ‘alaina wa’ala ibadil-lahis-salihin

All compliments, prayers and pure words are due to Allah.  Peace be on you, O Prophet, and also the mercy of Allah and His blessings.  Peace be on us, and on the righteous slaves of Allah.

Sufyan different poses-09

Ash hadu al-La ilaha il-lal lahu wa ash hadu anna Muhammadan abduoo wa rasuluh

I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

Allah humma sal-li ‘alaa Muhammadin, wa’alaa

aa-lee Muhammadin, Kama sal-layta ‘alaa Ibraheema, Wa’alaa aa-lee Ibraheema, innaka Hameedum Majeed. Allah humma barik ‘alaa Muhammadin, wa ‘alaa

aa-lee Muhammadin, Kama barakta ‘alaa Ibraheema wa ‘alaa alee Ibraheema, innaka Hameedum Majeed

O Allah! Send prayers on Muhammad, and on the family of Muhammad, as you sent prayers on (Ibraheem, and on) the family of Ibraheem; You are indeed Worthy of Praise, Full of Glory.

(Barik = Blessings)

Allahumma innee a’outhou bika min athaabi jahannam. Wa min athabil qabri.  Wa min fitnatil mahya wal mamaat.  Wa min fitnatil masee’hid’dajjal

O Allah!  I truly seek refuge with You from the punishment of Hellfire, and from the punishment of the grave, and from the trials of living and dying, and from the trials of the false Christ (Dajjal).

 Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah

(Peace and Allah’s Mercy be on You)

First turn your face to the right, then to the left
